The Jam were an English Mod and Punk Rock band that formed in 1972 in Surrey, England. They were originally formed of Paul Weller on guitar, Bruce Foxton on bass guitar, Rick Buckler on the drums, and Steve Brookes on guitar. Brookes eventually left the band, but was not replaced, and the trio continued.
The Jam are known mostly for their melodic pop songs, their distinctly English style, their mod image and smartly tailored suits. Their mix of different influences made them truly unique and allowed them to standout from other bands at the time.
Some of their biggest albums include 'Sound Affects' (1980), 'All Mod Cons' (1978), 'The Gift' (1982), 'Setting Sons' (1979), 'This Is the Modern World' (1977), 'In the City' (1977), and many more. The band released 18 consecutive Top 40 U.K. singles from 1977 to 1982, making them one of the most commercially successful bands of the time.
At the forefront of the Mod Revival movement of the.1970s and 1980s, The Jam drew upon a variety of stylistic influences over the course of their career. Some of these influences are quite clear when listening to their music, such as 1960s beat music, soul, rhythm and blues and psychedelic rock, as well as hints of 70s punk and new wave punk rock.
