The Jungle Book (1894) originated as a collection of stories written by the English author Rudyard Kipling. The story focuses on a young boy/ "man-cub" Mowgli who is raised in the jungle by wolves.
The Jungle Book has remained popular and has since been developed into several animated films and live-action films.
The 1967 animated film of the same name, produced by Walt Disney, is based on the stories that Rudyard Kipling brought to life. It was actually the last film to be produced by Walt Disney himself, who died during its production. The plot follows Mowgli, a child raised in the Indian jungle by wolves, as his friends Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear desperately try to convince Mowgli to leave the jungle before the evil tiger Shere Khan arrives and destroys him.
The Jungle Book (1967) cast includes Bruce Reitherman as Mowgli, Phil Harris as Baloo the sloth bear, Sebastian Cabot as the black panther Bagheera, Louis Prima as orangutan King Louie, George Sanders as Shere Khan, amongst other Disney legends. This version is famous for its lively and catchy songs such as "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wanna Be like You".
The film was made into a live-action feature film in 2016 by Jon Favreau. It tells the story of Mowgli, with incredible visual effects and CGI. This version stars Neel Sethi as Mowgli, along with voice performances from Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito, and Christopher Walken.
