The Sex Pistols are true music legends, who constructed and built the foundations for a new subculture -punk or punk rock. This English Rock band, formed in 1975, have inspired generations of musicians and bands since, and have helped shape the world of music as we now know it.
Regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music, the band was made up of vocalist Johnny Rotten (John Lydon), guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock. Although the band faced some line-up changes early on, like Matlock being replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977, their early years were pretty formative. Their debut album ‘Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols’, helped them on their way to global recognition.
The sound barrier crashing of Steve Jones' guitar was extremely powerful, and alongside the vocal style of Johnny Rotten, the band produced a style and sound unlike anything else of that time. Their wild and obscene behaviour attacked a conservative style of thinking that many working class individuals were able to relate to.
Some of their most popular songs include ‘God Save the Queen’, ‘Pretty Vacant', 'Anarchy in the U.K.', 'Bodies', 'Holiday in the Sun', 'Problems', and 'Silly Thing', among many others!
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, but in true Sex Pistols style, refused to attend their induction ceremony.
