Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Marvel's Thor made his comic book debut in “Journey into Mystery #83” in August 1962. Odinson is the Asgardian God of Thunder and a founding member of the Avengers. He is the son of Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and wields a mighty hammer named Mjolnir. He possesses superhuman strength, speed, endurance & virtual immortality as a member of the Asgardian race.
Marvel’s MCU introduced this character in 2011 with Chris Hemsworth in the leading role. The mighty hero also appeared in Avengers (2012), The Dark World (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and even made a cameo in Doctor Strange (2016).
The standalone movie series follows our hero on his thrilling adventures. The first film saw him stripped of his power and banished to Earth by Odin after reigniting an age-old feud between Asgard and Jotunheim. While on Earth, Thor falls in love with scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), and battles to save his human friends from a Destroyer sent by his scheming adopted half-brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
The second film sees the Norse God battle an ancient enemy, Malekith and his army of Dark Elves. Malekith seeks to unleash a weapon known as the Aether on the nine realms and restore their dominance in the Universe. The film sees our hero, his friends and the wily Loki fight back against this wicked foe.
Ragnarok (2017) begins with Thor being told by the fire demon Surtur that Asgard will soon be destroyed during the prophesied Ragnarok. The film follows the resurgence of Odin’s firstborn and Thor’s elder sister Hela, who's vengeful spirit craves death and supreme rule over the nine realms. The formidable hero must battle Hela and prevent Ragnarok from destroying his Asgardian home.
Throughout the franchise, the character has developed into a rich and interesting one, and thanks to Stan Lee’s incredible imagination there is the potential of more fantastical stories to come.
